1) William BullockThe precise relationship between the Bullocks and the Wingfields in unclarified. So far the results are not verified well enough to be certain of. The Wingfield lineage includes a family Bible record of this period that shows that two Wingfield daughters both married Bullocks. The first names of the two ladies and the two gentlemen are unknown. What is certain is that Edmund/Edward Bullock married Agnes Wingfield. In addition the following dated events serve to place the two families in close relationship to each other: 07/02/1785 John Wingfield and James Bullock, both attorneys, sell 533 acres adjacent to Garland Anderson (Isaac Winston witness) to Jno Brown for Thomas Wingfield. The land is described: 'Begin at Edward Bullock's old mill, up to mouth of Beaver Dam Creek.' The same (?) mill is mentioned in the will of Hugh Bullock (1650) and is passed on to Robert Bullock. 11/02/1780 John Wingfield mentioned along with his wife Francis. 11/13/1783 Transaction involving John Wingfield Sr mentions his son John Wingfield Jr. 07/24/1786 James Bullock serves as the executor of the estate of Edward Bullock. 12/21/1790 Jno Bullock Sr. sells land to Jno Bullock Jr, witness is John Bullock. 10/13/1821 Wingfield Bollock dies 01/11/1816 marriage(?) The following are from 'Campbell Chronicles' and other sources: In 1763 James Bullock was an ensign in Capt William Philip's Company of volunteers, serving until discharged. 03/11/1771 Marriage of Betty Bullock to William Kennon. Second by William Bullock, witness by John Bullock Jr. 03/11/1771 Marriage of John Bullock and Catherine Lewis, second by William Bullock. In 1775 James Bullock places a notice: "Three Negroe Fellows...called Polydore, Morris and July, well known in town as porters or jobbers, have absented themselves for several months, without ever coming near me, or bringing me, in all that time, one shilling of their earnings, I hereby promice a reward of five pounds to any white person, and fifty shillings to any Negroe or other slave, that will apprehend Polydore... and fourty shillings to any white person, and twenty to any Negroe or other slave for each of the other two, Morris and July. Polydore frequently is up the river about Greenwood and Higginson's plantation where he has a wife; Morris and July keep commonly about town cutting and felling grass and jobbing sometimes by land and sometimes by water. In the GA Gazzette of 08/02/1775. In 1780 James and Josias Bullock were Captains in the Revolutionary Army In 1782 Josias and Mary (?) Bullock sold land to David Herndon in Caroline Co. (200 acres). In 1784 Josias Bullock purchased 192 acres from John and Elizabeth Traylor In 1789 Hannah, widow and administrator of James Bullock, appealed to the Virginia State assembly for help. Her husband James died in 1784 leaving her with 5 small children to be supported, along with 10 slaves. Only 5 of the slaves were workers, one had been convicted of a felony and executed and as a result of all the above she was unable to support herself. This must be another James as it cannot be the same as the James who was executor of his father's estate in 1786. 03/04/1788 James and Nancy Bullock sell land. In the documents, special arrangements are necessary as 'Nancy can not conveniently travel'. 12/21/1791 John Bullock sells land to John Bullock Jr, land along 'Bullock's Line'. 11/21/1799 Josias Bullock regarding a land claim, mentions William Bullock, living in Clark Co. | |||

I never saw my mother; she died at my birth. There are references to a second marriage and one child from that marriage but no data as to the identity of the woman. The Rainey book is all wrong at this point. Edward was a commissioned Captain in the Revolutionary Army. In 1781, his company and that of Captain Hammer's were the last to join Lafayette. He marched to Williamsburg, and upon arrival marched to the battle of Yorktown. | |||
