Joseph took a wife at Saint Eutrope about 1623. His wife, Madeleine Morrison, gave birth to Etienne, Louise, and Marguerite. Madeleine died shortly after bringing her last child into the world and husband Joseph lost no time in remarrying, this time to a Catholic girl from Saintonge. She was named Huguette Preveraud, whose property "Portail" was situated near the church at Gonds. It was there that Joseph raised his second family, leaving the children from Madeleine in care of her parents.
