He then established his rule in Venetia, Isteria, Dalmatia, Corsica and Bavaria. Saxony was not conquered until after a bitter 30 year struggle In 795/6. the Avars on the lower Danube were conquered. Barcelona was taken in 801. A new division of government called Margraves (over several Grafs) was established to govern the various parts of the kingdom.
