Brawner, on Oct. 4 last; 100 acs sold for $7.56 1/4 cts per ac. - John Barnes, clk" (source: Daily National Intelligencer, Jan 27, 1821, submitted by K. Torp to [genealogytrails.com]). "In the December, 1860 term of the Maryland Court of Appeals: David Stem and wife vs Samuel Cox, and others. Appeal from the Equity side of the Circuit Court for Charles County. The bill in this case, filed on the 1st of April 1857, by the appellants, on behalf of themselves and the other heirs of William Swann, deceased, against J.H. Hanson, the administrators of Hugh Cox ... alleges that William Swann died in 1821, leaving six children his heirs-at-law... " The document goes on to show that James Swann was the eldest son of William Swann and James "elected to take the valuation of the commissioners and on 27 March 1823, he gave bond to the state for payment to the other heirs of their proportions of this valuation..." Subsequently James died, leaving two sons, George and James, his heirs, both of whom had died intestate, without issue and without property, by the time the appeal was filed. They lived in Huntington Twp., The deed for their property and the last will and testament of John Elder are on file at the county court house in Greensburg, PA.
